Based on the analysis, certain problems and policy formulations regarding various issues prevailing in Bundelkhand region is pointed out. In general Bundelkhand region is affected by the menace of droughts since over a decade. As the article emphasise that the major reason behind the grief and catastrophe in the region is drought followed by flood, hailstorm and irregularity in rainfall. But ecological and environmental factors alone are not responsible for the crisis in the region. There are other reasons such as failure of government programmes which has been applied for mitigating drought and other programmes related to nutrition and food security. Thus government cannot simply blame the crisis as a natural phenomenon and there are†¦show more content†¦For overcoming the problem related to PDS one should give emphasis to universal public distribution system as in other state of India such as Kerala, Chhattisgarh and Tamil Nadu instead of targeted public distribution syste m (TPDS). The reason is, in TPDS one has to target the beneficiaries to find out who deserves BPL category and who deserves APL category and it is in the process of targeting where the biasness and corruption starts. But when the distribution system becomes universal means everyone is eligible corruption declines because it reduces the power of authorities to do corruption through colluding and divergence and leakage of foodgrains also decline manifold. Moreover, rich will be automatically excluded because he do not have enough times to come to the ration shop, stand in line and wait for his turn to purchase the grain but real poor can wait for its turn. Since major portion of population in the region is rural and is dependent on agriculture in one way or the other and when drought occurs their livelihood is severely hampered. Thus there must be some substitute work so that the people can earn their livelihood.
